About TravelM8
The travel mate that plans the whole trip with you — visa application to the taxi home, on one honest screen.
Why this exists
Every existing tool gets one piece right and skips the rest. Cost calculators (Numbeo, BudgetYourTrip) tell you what a week in Lisbon roughly costs but won't book anything. Itinerary apps (Wanderlog, Mindtrip, Tripit) sequence your days but bury the budget. Booking funnels (Booking.com, Expedia, Skyscanner) book individual products but hide the all-in trip total. Google Travel surfaces flights and hotels but treats visa, insurance, transit, and food as someone-else's-problem.
TravelM8 covers the full lifecycle on one screen: visa, insurance, flights, lodging, daily food split into five meals, activities, the taxi home — every row source-cited so you can verify, every cost expressed in the currency you think in, every booking link to a partner you'd use anyway.
What we are
- A planning tool. The output is a single screen of honest costs and action items, not a marketplace.
- An honest broker. We earn affiliate commissions but recommend the right partner for the trip — never the highest-paying one. (See /how-we-earn.)
- A trust layer. Every cost row cites where the number came from. Every visa row links to the destination's government portal so you can verify independently.
- A leather notebook, not a steel desk. Aspirational and warm — planning a vacation, not approving a deploy.
What we're not
- Not a marketplace. We don't take inventory, we don't sell rooms, we don't compete with Booking.
- Not a coupon site. No fake discounts. No urgency manipulation. No "3 people are looking at this hotel right now."
- Not Pinterest-luxury. The destination list — Apeldoorn, Khabarovsk, Balıkesir alongside Madrid, Tromsø — signals real, varied travel. Not influencer aspirational.
- Not an AI itinerary generator (yet). Phase 4 has an AI replanner for cost / kid-friendliness optimization, but the core plan is rule-based for transparency.
Where we are
Made in Amsterdam, currently launching with Netherlands as the V1 passport. UK, EU Schengen (via DE / FR / IT / ES / AT / PT), and India passports landed in Phase 2. More to follow once visa data is verified for each.
30 destinations across Europe, Asia, the Americas, and the Middle East / North Africa, with deliberate trip-shape diversity (Schengen city breaks, visa-free intercontinental, visa-on-arrival, full visa-required flows, advisory destinations like Khabarovsk).
The roadmap
Phase 1 shipped the MVP — single-screen plan, free tier, anonymous + signed-in modes, save-trip persistence. Phase 2 added passport variety, family pricing, currency toggle, microinteractions, print/PDF export. Phase 3 shipped the during-trip companion — installable PWA, offline checklist, spend tracking. We're currently in Phase 5: landing + editorial surfaces.
What's on deck: AI replanner ("make this 20% cheaper / more kid-friendly"), multi-city, group cost-split, push notifications at trip milestones, and editorial destination guides for organic discovery.
